WA Greens member for the Mining and Pastoral Region Robin Chapple MLC has today welcomed statements by Premier Colin Barnett on the future of asylum seekers detained on Nauru.
“The conditions on Nauru and Manus Islands are completely unacceptable and I am 100 per cent in agreement with the Premier about the ability of Western Australia to more than accommodate for those people,” Mr Chapple said.
“Furthermore, the WA Greens would like the Federal government to reconsider its position and allow Western Australia to resettle those on Nauru, and Manus Island, immediately.
“I would call on the Premier to strengthen his position and demand the Federal Government end its horrific regime of offshore detention and allow those being held to resettle here in our beautiful, spacious state.”
