Your Greens in State Parliament
14 June 2013
Welcome to the first overview of what’s going on in State Parliament.
In the first of three sitting weeks Robin gave his first speech for the Parliamentary term (the Address in Reply). The speech which covered James Price Point, Kimberley Suicides, Damage, the Canning Stock Route IPA, Toro, Uranium price, economic performance, GST, Royalties and Energy supply is available on his website.
On Wednesday 19 June, Lynn will be moving a motion on Point Peron to argue that the land is restricted to public purpose and will give her “Address in Reply” in August.
Next Thursday, the Greens will have an hour and a half of debate time. We are planning to table Lynn’s Coastal Bill and initiate a forest debate.
We continue to hear the inaugural speeches from newly elected Members. The live exporter who replaced Mia Davies and WA’s sole Shooter and Fisher from Mandurah laid out their alarming agendas for the coming terms.
We have only dealt with one bill so far and that was the State Agreements Legislation Repeal Bill 2013, a minor bill to repeal irrelevant State Agreement Acts. The upcoming Bills are:
City of Fremantle and Town and East Fremantle Trust Funds (Amendment and Expiry) Bill 2013
Duties Legislation Amendment Bill 2013
Fair Trading Amendment Bill 2013
Family Court Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2013
Hospitals and Health Services Amendment Bill 2013
Insurance Commission of Western Australia Amendment Bill 2013
Liquor Control Amendment Bill 2013
Natural Gas (Canning Basin Joint Venture) Agreement Bill 2013
Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Legislation Amendment Bill 2013
Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre Amendment Bill 2013
Rates and Charges (Rebates and Deferments) Amendment Bill 2013
Royal Perth Hospital Protection Bill 2013
Statutes (Repeals and Minor Amendments) Bill 2013
The Explanatory Memorandums for these Bills are available by clicking on the above links.
It was great to join Rachel and Bob for Scott’s campaign launch at Rigby’s. It is certainly shaping up to be an energetic campaign.
