Stop it or your blindness will devastate us all!

Robin Chapple WA Greens spokesperson on Climate Change, has backed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in its most comprehensive scientific assessment to date, which says we will stand no chance of preventing catastrophic warming if we do not leave the majority of the world's fossil fuel reserves in the ground.

UN Secretary-General Ban Kimoon said, "Science has spoken. There is no ambiguity in their message. Leaders must act. Time is not on our side."

"Fossil fuels are bad for humanity, and so is the Liberal/Nationals denial of global warming science," said Robin Chapple.

"It's 24 years since the IPCC's first report and each report has become more dire in its predictions of catastrophic warming, more specific in its findings and more overwhelming in its call to action.

Science is telling us our emissions must drop by 40 to 70% globally between 2010 and 2050 and yet here in WA our emissions are going from (1990) 52.0 MTPA (CO2e) to a minimum of (2016) 170 MTPA (CO2e) a 300% increase and this is not even including the advent of fracked gas!!!!

"The Federal and State governments needs to take their collective heads out of the sand and face the scientific and economic reality set out in this IPCC report. Global warming is real and urgent, and politicians must act to cut emissions fast. The world has run out of time.

"The Federal and State governments must stop referring to renewable energy as disruptive power and embrace the future. Now is the time to increase renewable energy not undermine it.

"Australia carries the shame of being the OECD's biggest per capita polluter, exporting pollution to the world as a major exporter of coal and being the only nation to dismantle an active emissions trading scheme.

"The world's scientists have rejected our pathetic five per cent pollution reduction target adopted by the collective dinosaurs of politics.

"Coal and fracked gas means global warming and that is not good for humanity or the planet. The WA Greens will do everything possible to phase them out.

"The IPCC says securing a safe climate future won't cost the earth. Failing to transition our economy will," said Robin Chapple WA Greens spokesperson on Climate Change.
