Your Greens in State Parliament
Robin supported moves by the ALP to send the Electricity Corporations Amendment Bill which merges Verve and Synergy to the Legislation Committee to give industry an opportunity to provide information and influence the committee in its deliberations. Whilst the debate on the motion continues it is likely the Nationals will support the Government and block the bill going to committee.
Questions by Lynn in Parliament revealed only 1000 numbats remain in the wild. Figures for Wandoo, Jarrah and Marri forest logged over the past four years were not provided by the Minister, yet. The numbat is specially protected under the WA Wildlife Conservation Act 1950, it is listed as vulnerable under the Federal EPBC Act and International Union for Conservation of Nature. The Minister failed to identify that habitat loss through logging and clearing was the chief threat, but instead noted that foxes and feral cats are threats. The weekend brings two rallies: opposing shark culling and live exports.
We would like to see the Government take up Curtin’s offer for a light rail terminus on campus. Questions about the light rail link to Curtin University confirmed that the Government currently has no plans for it.
Lynn tabled two petitions calling for bans on the use of herbicides and pesticides on public land and open spaces in urban areas.
Robin discovered that no declaration of interest had been declared by the former CEO of the Goldfields Development Commission over work that his company had costed for a project funded by Royalties for Regions.
